The Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year competition is now in its 13th year and continues to grow in significance with over 25 categories and a top prize of £5,000.

The wide-ranging categories include Food in the Field, Food for the Family, Food Portraiture, the Claire Aho Award for Women Photographers and The Politics of Food. Consequently, the Awards acknowledge the significance of food in all our lives and the diversity of ways that it impacts us.

There are two exciting new categories for 2024, The Tiptree Cake Award for images of cake, in any setting or context and The James Beard Foundation Award for images that celebrate the people behind America’s food culture – ‘Good Food for Good’.

This year, the popular Bring Home the Harvest category is partnered with Tenderstem®, while The Royal Photographic Society supports the free-to-enter Student Food Photographer of the Year category. This category is for students attending a full or part-time photography course at a recognised college or university.

Alongside the photography categories, the Food Film Shorts category is for films of any length up to 3 minutes, about food in any context. This year the category is sponsored by MPB.

In addition, after three years at The Royal Photographic Society’s HQ in Bristol, the Awards’ premier exhibition is returning to central London.

I’m delighted to say that I have been invited to be one of the judges again, and I’ll be joining the global panel chaired by legendary food photographer David Loftus. Other judges include: Claire Reichenbach, CEO, The James Beard Foundation, Tom Athron, CEO, Fortnum & Mason, Nik Sharma, Cookbook author and Photographer, Fiona Shields, Picture Editor, The Guardian and Rein Skullerud, Senior Photographer & Photo Editor, World Food Programme.
